339 Highlights Technology at the Parent Expo

By Aurelie Kengne

The 339 first Parent Expo Night of the school year was Thursday, December 11, 2008. Most of our parents came that night to see the work their kids have accomplished so far this year. The main interest which attracted their attention was our new system in technology. They were so ecstatic and proud that our school is using laptops in every classes. We are one of the few middle schools in New York which uses laptop in school. Most of our projects have been presented in Google Docs, Microsoft Word and Blogger or Ning.

There were enough foods for everyone who came. Our staff did a fantastic job because our tables were crowed with different variety of recipes. We had ambassadors who did a super job by showing directions to parents who were lost. Moreover, students and teachers did a good job because they explained how the class with technology work and how important using laptops in school is. Parents were surprised about how blogger was being used in school. In our school, all students are blogging so their parent could see that at home and see how their kid is doing to school.

We got raffle tickets and the lucky winners won a bike and a computer. Parent Expo Night was a very special night to parents, students and teachers. Nothing stressful happened and we hope that the next one will be more fantastic than the first.

P.S. Four students had the chance to describe the Parents Expo Night "live," and it was published in the Gotham Schools blog at http://gothamschools.org/2008/12/12/students-at-cis-339-live-blog-their-schools-parent-expo/.
